These Darland scarves by Wallace & Sewell are inspired by Florence Hutchings' works, ‘Silhouetted Table’ (2018) and ‘The White Table’ (2021). Drawing from her distinctive still life and abstract paintings, the scarves translate the vibrant energy of Hutchings' artworks into wearable pieces of textile design.

In ‘Silhouetted Table’ (2018), the design takes inspiration from a fruitful still life of flowers, rendered in rich ochres, yellows, and browns, punctuated by soft pinks and orchard green. These hues combine within a beautifully textured, soft lambswool scarf, with bold, double-sided stripes mixing flat bands of color and sections of twill. This interplay creates a textural relief, offering both visual interest and a tactile experience. The scarf is crafted from super soft merino lambswool, resulting in a smooth and cozy finish that enhances the sense of warmth and comfort.

In contrast, ‘The White Table’ (2021) takes a more dynamic and abstract approach, inspired by Hutchings' painting of the same name. Featuring bold diagonals of vibrant green, the scarf contrasts deep reds and blues with juxtaposing stripes of olive, brown, and pale blue. The same double-sided design structure, with its mix of flat bands and twill sections, brings a textural relief to the piece, while the super soft merino lambswool ensures a smooth and luxurious finish. The bold, graphic nature of this design captures the movement and energy of the original artwork while still offering the softness and comfort of a high-quality scarf.

Both scarves combine Hutchings' signature blend of artistic expression and refined craftsmanship, turning her captivating paintings into functional works of art that provide not only aesthetic pleasure but also lasting warmth and comfort.
